State of the Blog: Fall 2025
Hey everyone, I wanted to give an update on the blog. As you can tell from the new design, domain name, and hosting site: I've moved from Wix to Blogger.
I've created an archive of past articles and much of this change was actually done in May, right before I was consumed by the terrible serpent that comes for all grad students: their first draft of their thesis/MRP (also I moved and then actually had to finish my MA degree so suffice to say I was busy this Summer)
Because of these changes, I thought it apt to give an update and preview for what I want to do with this blog. I really enjoyed writing these posts, as they were able to be more creative and express the stream of consciousness far better than academic writing allows. This is not an issue with academic work, believe me, I'm thankful there were strict writing restrictions and checks to ensure my research was well articulated and accurate.
So, with my writing brain now able to commit to more casual and relaxed work, I've decided to try and commit to a monthly blog post if not bimonthly depending on how energized I feel about a certain topic. If there's one thing I've learned in writing my MRP, it's how to quickly write over 30 pages of text when needed, so one post per month of a relaxed length suits me just fine. And because I'm very keen to keep to a self-imposed deadline, I thought I'd share what I hope to write about and share with you:
- "The Banality of Good: Why Evil Requires Exhaustion and Empathy Necessitates Inconvenience"*
- "Dungeon Synth: Ambient Dark Metal That I Adore"
- "The Meat of All Slaves": Newfoundland's Role in the British Atlantic Slave Economy" [My major research paper that I've spent the past year working on]
- "Nick's Christmas Mix 2025"
- "Why Home Alone is the Best Die Hard Movie"
- "Samalamadingdong is a Masterclass in Ludonarrative Design"
- "Gnosticism, Explained (Through the Use of the Game Changer Episode "Bingo")"
And (hopefully) many, many more! I can't wait for this next chapter in my life to begin, and want to use this blog as the vehicle for discussing and expressing myself throughout it.
*I'm sure you are also curious why I switched from Wix to Blogger, and truth be told I did intend to discuss it here, but I feel it was suited better to a separate, more focused post on other changes in my life I've had to make in the past year.
